Atiku Abubakar loses mother-in-law.

Former Vice President and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in 2019 election, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, on Monday night, announced the death of his mother-in-law, Hajiya Khadija Aliyu Musdafa. Hajiya Musdafa, who was wife of the late Lamido Aliyu Musdafa, died on Monday. The deceased will be buried tomorrow in Yola, the Adamawa State capital. Atiku in a tweet also sent his condolences to the Lamido of Adamawa HRH Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa and the Musdafa royal family. “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing  away of my beloved mother-in-law and wife of the late Lamido Aliyu Musdafa, Hajiya Khadija Aliyu Musdafa. Ghana to reopen air borders from September 1.

Ghana will reopen air borders to international travel as of September 1 after closing them in March to limit the spread of the coronavirus, President Nana Akufo-Addo said in a speech to the nation on Sunday. Land and sea borders will remain closed, he said. - Reuters

Government official caught having sex with secretary during Zoom meeting.

A government official in the Philippines is to be removed from his post after being caught having sex with his secretary during a Zoom call. Captain Jesus Estil, of the Fatima Dos village council in the province of Cavite, appeared not to know his camera was on at the time of the incident, witnessed by numerous members of the council’s staff. Footage shows Estil and a woman stood a distance back from the camera in one window of a conference call. The call was reportedly part of a regular council meeting that took place on August 26. The woman appears to begin to drop her trousers before Estil approaches the camera and seemingly attempts to turn it off. He is then seen walking away from the computer and back towards the woman. As others continue the conference call, the pair can be seen having sex on the far side of the room. 29 dead as restaurant collapsed in Shanxi China.

Twenty-nine people were killed and seven seriously injured when a restaurant collapsed in northern China's Shanxi province, the country's emergencies ministry media said on Sunday. The building collapsed at 9:40 a.m. (0140 GMT) on Saturday in Xiangfen county in the southwest of Shanxi, the Ministry of Emergency Management said in a statement. The accident in the two-storey structure occurred as villagers and relatives gathered for a birthday party, and the rescue operation ended early on Sunday, state media said. Fifty-seven people were pulled from the debris, with 29 confirmed dead, while 21 suffered minor injuries. The Shanxi provincial government has set up a high-level team to investigate the accident in the county, which is under the jurisdiction of the city of Linfen, the emergency management ministry said. - Reuters

The Minister of Labour also called on the Governor to punish Billionaire Oil magnate Prince Arthur Eze, who lead the monarch on the trip, describing his actions as an act of sabotage. Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman dies of cancer at 43.

Chadwick Boseman, who played Black icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown with searing intensity before finding fame as the regal Black Panther in the Marvel cinematic universe, died Friday of cancer, his representative said. He was 43. Boseman died at his home in the Los Angeles area with his wife and family by his side, his publicist Nicki Fioravante told The Associated Press. Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, his family said in a statement. “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” his family said. “From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more - all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.” Boseman had not spoken publicly about his diagnosis. He is survived by his wife and a parent and had no children, Fioravante said.

Police kill Okada man over 50 naira bribe in Oyo State.

A certain man identified as Biola has been allegedly killed by police officers in Oyo State over a bribe of 50 Naira. The incident occurred on Wednesday at Born Photo area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital. The deceased was said to be on his way to pick up his wife who was at the hospital before meeting his untimely death. A witness, who identified himself simply as Segun, said he was on his way to work when he witnessed the scene. He alleged that policemen in the area daily engaged in the extortion of commercial bus drivers and motorcyclists popularly called Okada. “The officers stopped the deceased and were trying to extort money from him but he did not give them because he was rushing to the hospital to pick his wife.  “The officers insisted that he must give them money and weren’t listening to anything he was saying. Paul Pogba has tested positive for Coronavirus according to France manager Didier Deschamps. The 27-year-old Manchester United Midfielder will be unavailable for France's Nations League fixtures. Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele - Pogba's teammate in the national side - has also tested positive for COVID-19 and will spend 14 days self-isolating. New Zealand mosque shooter sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

The white supremacist who slaughtered 51 worshippers at two New Zealand mosques was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The judge imposed the maximum available sentence on 29-year-old Australian gunman Brenton Harrison Tarrant, the first time the sentence has been imposed in New Zealand. Judge Cameron Mander said Tarrant's crimes were so wicked that a life time in jail could not begin to atone for them. He said they had caused enormous loss and hurt and stemmed from a warped and malignant ideology. "Your actions were inhuman," Mander said. "You deliberately killed a 3-year-old infant as he clung to the leg of his father." The March 2019 attacks targeting people praying at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques shocked New Zealand and prompted new laws banning the deadliest types of semi-automatic weapons. Tennis Star Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from playing in the semi-finals of Western and Southern Open in New York. The former World number one took to social media on Wednesday to announce her decision. "I don't expect anything drastic to happen with me not playing, but if I can get a conversation started in a majority white sport, I consider that a step in the right direction," Osaka wrote in a statement. The withdrawal is a show of protest over the reckless shooting of Jacob Blake, who was shot seven times by cops in Wisconsin on Sunday and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Man who killed John Lennon has been denied Parole for an 11th time.

Mark David Chapman, the man responsible for the shooting and killing of John Lennon outside his Manhattan apartment in 1980, has been denied Parole for an 11th time, the state corrections officials said on Wednesday. Mark David Chapman was denied after being interviewed by a parole board Aug. 19, according to corrections officials. Chapman, 65, is serving a 20-years-to-life sentence at Wende Correctional Facility, east of Buffalo. Chapman shot and killed the former Beatle on the night of Dec. 8, 1980, hours after Lennon autographed an album for him. He has said previously that he feels “more and more shame” every year for the crime. “I was too far in,” Chapman told a parole board in 2018. “I do remember having the thought of, ‘Hey, you have got the album now. Look at this, he signed it, just go home.’ But there was no way I was just going to go home.” Chapman’s next parole hearing is scheduled for August 2022.

France reports 5,429 new cases of coronavirus.

The French health ministry said it had registered 5,429 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, a new post-lockdown high and a level of new infections not seen since the height of the epidemic in early April. The total number of people infected with the virus in France now stands at 253,587. The health ministry said figures for the cumulative death toll and for COVID-19 hospitalisations for Wednesday were not available yet due to a technical glitch. On Tuesday, the ministry reported the cumulative number of deaths had risen by 16 to 30,544 and it said 4,600 people were in hospital with COVID-19, including 410 in intensive care. -Reuters

Igbo man appointed Minister of Justice in Canada.

Kaycee Madu, a Nigerian-born Canadian has been appointed the minister of Justice and solicitor-General of Alberta Canada. The 47-year-old was born and raised in South-east Nigeria. He graduated from the University of Lagos with a law degree in 2001. He has practised law in both Nigeria and Alberta. According to CBC News, he and his wife relocated to Canada in 2005. With the new appointment, he replaces Doug Schweitzer, the new minister of jobs, economy and innovation. Prior to his appointment, Mr Madu was a member of the legislative assembly of the province representing the district of Edmonton-South West after winning the 2019 Alberta general election. On April 30, 2019, he was appointed to the Executive Council of Alberta as the Minister of Municipal Affairs. Mr Madu, a member of the United Conservative Party, is the first Nigerian-born cabinet member in Alberta. A Jamaican business woman who survived a fatal car crash that killed her friend now has a British accent plus she is also left-handed. Deana-Rae Clayton who has never visited the UK, woke up from a two-day coma only to find herself speaking not in patois ( Jamaican accent) but in British accent. The 33-year-old vlogger, from Montego Bay, said not only is she unable to speak patois, the Jamaican accent, but she is unable to understand it at times when it is spoken to her. Speaking to Mail Online, Deana-Rae said, "In my head I'm speaking patois but when it comes out of my mouth I sound British. The talented artist's family confirmed his death in a statement posted to the band's  Twitter  page on Tuesday, Aug. 25. "It is with the greatest of sadness we must announce that our lead singer and brother Riley Gale passed away last night," the statement began. "Riley was a friend, a brother, a son. The father of filmmaker Steven Spielberg  died  of natural causes on Tuesday. Arnold Spielberg was 103. Steven was with his father on the night of his death, according to a statement, telling him, “You are our hearth. The former Aviation minister was seen in a video question the sanity of the Journalist after he asked Fani-Kayode if his recent trips were sponsored. Man dies after his lover pulled his private part.

A date night ended tragically in Mt Hampden, Zimbabwe as a 49-year-old man identified as Christopher Muchenga died after his lover pulled his private parts during a scuffle.    The man's lover has been identified as Mbuya Ropafadzo and it was gathered the incident occurred last week.    Muchenga died after his private part was pulled while being pinned on the ground by Ropafadzo's other lover. Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has bagged a prison sentence of 21 months and 10 days,  according to Martha Kelner who is present at the court hearing. The Manchester United skipper has earlier being found guilty for aggravated assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery. According to Martha Kelner, the sentence will be suspended because it is a first offence and charges were misdemeanours.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and repeated attempts of bribery. The Manchester United captain was arrested in Mykonos Greece, while holidaying on the Greek island. Maguire, 27, flew back to the UK after being released on bail. A judge restricted the number of people in court to just ten due to the Covid-19 pandemic. According to  Sky's  Martha Kelner , who was among those present  reported this afternoon that Maguire has been found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and bribery. Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the eldest son of president Jair Bolsonaro, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to a statement by Flavio's spokesman. Flavio has no symptoms of COVID-19 and is at home, it said, adding he has started taking chloroquine and azithromycin as part of a treatment against the virus. President Bolsonaro is a big supporter of chloroquine, a drug used to treat malaria, despite the lack of solid evidence it works against the disease. Bolsonaro himself caught the virus earlier, as well as his wife Michelle Bolsonaro and his youngest son, Jair Renan.

Ex-Ukranian PM has been moved to intensive care after contracting COVID-19.

Yulia Tymoshenko, the former Ukrainian prime minister who helped lead the 2004 Orange Revolution, has been moved to intensive care after contracting the coronavirus. News that the 59-year-old had fallen ill came on Sunday, with Tymoshenko’s health worsening on Monday evening and prompting the transfer, according to her spokeswoman, Maryna Soroka. “Unfortunately we don’t have good news at the moment,” Soroka said Tuesday on Facebook. Tymoshenko remains in “serious condition.” Tymoshenko’s career faded as the Orange Revolution team collapsed and Viktor Yanukovych, who the uprising blocked from power, went on to secure the presidency in 2010. Airlines to pay $3,500 per passenger without COVID-19 test result.

Ahead of the opening of international flights, the Federal Government has warned that airlines would pay upto $3,500 per passenger for airlifting passengers without negative COVID-19 test results. The Coordinator, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Sanni Aliyu, said this at the daily briefing of the PTF on in Abuja. Speaking on the new protocols that would start from Aug. 29, the coordinator said it was expected that passengers coming into the country must present a PCR COVID-19 test result that was within seven days. Aliyu also said that when a passenger arrived Nigeria and present a PCR negative result, the passenger was expected to self-isolate for seven days and submit his or her COVID-19 test before reuniting with the community. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has warned Nigerian parents against sending their children to universities in Northern Cyprus over the incessant and mysterious killing of Nigerians. Chairman/CEO of the commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who gave the warning on Monday, said it was too risky to send children to the schools in Northern Cyprus as hundreds of Nigerian students had been killed there mysteriously without any conclusive investigations carried out. Dabiri-Erewa said this when she received in her office, a delegation led by Justice Amina Bello, mother of a Nigerian student, Ibrahim Khaleel, who was allegedly killed in inexplicable circumstances in that country. Usain Bolt has tested positive for Coronavirus. The record holding Jamaican sprinter announced via a video, that he is awaiting his  test results and he is currently in self-quarantine at his home in Jamaica a week after celebrating his 34th birthday. Bolt said he took the test on Saturday after partying with friends on his birthday. He showed no symptoms. Jamaica's health ministry confirmed late on Monday that Bolt, who holds world records in the 100-metre and 200-metre sprints, had tested positive after he posted a video on social media around midday saying he had been tested and was awaiting the results. Over the weekend several shops and a timber truck were torched during ethnic violence between Ouattara supporters and opposition in the southern city of Divo, a cocoa-growing hub, according to images shared on social media. It is not yet clear what casualties the latest unrest may have caused.
