Heavy rainfall kills 12 in China's Henan province

Heavy rainfall in central China's Henan province has killed 12 people in its capital Zhengzhou and has led to the relocation of about 100,000 people to safe zones, state media Xinhua reported on Wednesday (Jul 21), citing the local government. Both Henan province and Zhengzhou municipal meteorological bureaus raised the emergency response for the disaster to level 1, with forecasts predicting heavy rains in the province to last until Wednesday night, Xinhua reported. The already drenched city of Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province, was hit by 20cm of rain from 4pm to 5pm, the official Xinhua News Agency said, citing the Henan weather agency. The torrent of rain turned streets into rapidly flowing rivers and inundated subways stations and cars. Videos posted online showed entire neighbourhoods covered in waist-deep water and vehicles floating in the muddy mire. China and India agrees to de-escalate border situation.

Chinese foreign ministry has said that China and India have agreed to de-escalate border situation as soon as possible following a clash between their troops. According to a report by Reuters, Senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi told Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar during a phone conversation on Wednesday that India should punish severely anyone that has a hand in the conflict between the two countries and also control its frontline troops, the Chinese ministry said in a statement. Both have blamed each other for the clash on Monday, which saw no fewer than 20 Indian Soldiers lose their lives.

Chinese Super League club fold after arrest and imprisonment of former owner.

Chinese Super League (CSL) team Tianjin Tianhai, which once employed World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro as coach and signed Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato, have declared bankruptcy and folded, the club announced on Tuesday (May 12). Tianjin, founded in Inner Mongolia as Hohhot Binhai in 2006, have struggled to pay the bills since the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of former owner Shu Yuhui, finishing second bottom of the CSL last year. Shenzhen FC, who were relegated after finishing bottom, have been reprieved and will replace Tianhai in the CSL for the 2020 season, which has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. "Given an unsustainable financial situation, the club is no longer able to maintain normal operations," Tianjin said in a statement. "After a period of thoughtful consideration... the club has no choice but to formally announce that Tianjin Tianhai is disbanding." The club were one of the league's most ambitious at the height of the
