Earthquake strikes near New Zealand capital, no immediate damage reported.

WELLINGTON: A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck near New Zealand's capital Wellington on Monday (May 25), but there were no immediate reports of damage. The earthquake was 37km deep and the epicentre was 30km northwest of Levin, a city in New Zealand's North Island close to Wellington, according to Geonet. It was followed by a 3.5-magnitude quake, then one of 3.6, then 3.7. Geonet first classified the earthquake as magnitude 5.9. Emergency services in Wellington City said there were no immediate reports of damage. All trains in Wellington were suspended while engineers assessed the impact, the city's Metlink service said on Twitter. A Reuters witness felt strong shaking in Wellington. Earthquake hits Italy amid coronavirus outbreak.

Italians poured out of their homes in the country's north this afternoon after a tremor shook Tuscany amid growing coronavirus fears. The 2.6-magnitude quake, which struck around a mile north of Camaiore in Versilia, was recorded by the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology at 2.17pm this afternoon.  It had an epicenter in the Lucca province in Tuscany, central-western Italy, and a depth of around five miles. 

Major Flood Hits Jakarta, Thousands Evacuate.

Heavy rains that battered Jakarta two days in a row caused citywide flooding on Tuesday, throwing the capital city into disarray and inhibiting transportation. Several commuter line trains, Transjakarta buses and Jak Lingko (public minivan) routes serving Greater Jakarta had already been disrupted for two consecutive days. Tuesday's flooding made the disruptions worse. Commuter Line trains serving the Bekasi to Kota, Bogor to Kota and Bogor/Depok to Angke/Jatinegara routes had to stop at Manggarai Station, while trains serving the Bekasi to Kota route stopped at Pasar Senen Station. The electricity supply to 20 Transjakarta bus stops was cut on Tuesday morning, disabling electric ticket readers. Twenty-two Transjakarta bus routes and 14 Jak Lingko routes were suspended, while 12 other routes were diverted on Tuesday morning. At least six students drowned and five others are missing after being caught by a flash flood in torrential rain while trekking near a river in Indonesia Around two dozen students from a group of 250 were injured in the incident and taken to hospital in Yogyakarta, the country’s cultural capital on Java island. “While they were trekking, suddenly the flood with strong current hit and swept away some students,” said national disaster mitigation agency spokesman Agus Wibowo in a statement. The students were from school scout clubs. The Southeast Asian archipelago is regularly hit by floods during the rainy season, which started in late November. Torrential rain in January triggered flooding and landslides that killed nearly 70 people in and around the capital, Jakarta, while thousands more were forced to evacuate to shelters.
