Jeff Bezos awarded celebrity chef José Andrés and CNN political commentator Van Jones $100 million to put towards a charity or nonprofit of their choice, and to dow what they would like with the money. The Hill reports that the “Courage and Civility Award,” was announced shortly after Bezos and his rocket reached Space. The award recognizes “leaders who aim high, and who pursue solutions with courage and who always do so with civility.” “I know that Van Jones is going to do something amazing with that $100 million. I don’t know what yet, I bet he doesn’t know what yet, but it’s in your hands, Van Jones. However you’re going to do it, it’s gonna work,” Bezos said “We need unifiers and not vilifiers. People who argue hard and act hard for what they truly believe, but they do that always with civility and never ad hominem attacks. And unfortunately, we live in a world where this is too often not the case. But we do have role models,” Bezos added.

Jeff Bezos, the world's richest person, on Tuesday is set to blast off aboard his company Blue Origin's New Shepard launch vehicle for a suborbital flight as part of a history-making crew - another milestone in ushering in a new era of private space travel. The American billionaire is due to fly from a desert site in West Texas on an 11-minute voyage to the edge of space nine days after British rival Richard Branson was aboard his competing space tourism company Virgin Galactic's successful inaugural suborbital flight from New Mexico. Branson got to space first, but Bezos is due to fly higher - 62 miles (100 km) for Blue Origin compared to 53 miles (86 km) for Virgin Galactic - in what experts call the world's first unpiloted space flight with an all-civilian crew. Bezos, founder of ecommerce juggernaut Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O), and his brother and private equity executive Mark Bezos will be joined in the flight by two others. Pioneering female aviator Wally

How to backup your Facebook photos and videos to your Google account.

Image
After a successful trial in Ireland, Facebook has now opened up its  Data Transfer Project  (DTP) tool to its 200 million-plus users in the USA and Canada. The DTP tool allows users to transfer all of the photos and videos they have currently stored on Facebook directly to Google Photos. This means there’s no longer any need to download individual items one-by-one in order to save them.  Here is how you can successfully backup your photos and videos to Google drive. It’s easy to get started. just head to the  DTP page  and choose a destination for the transfer (currently, only Google Photos is supported). In the pop-up window that follows, authorize Facebook’s access to your Google Photos. Then, select either Photos or Videos (for some reason you can’t transfer both at once) and then click ‘Next’. That’s all there is to it. With files from Forbes

Twitter bans post that dehumanize people with disease.

Twitter Inc said on Thursday it is banning posts that "dehumanize" people because they have a disease or disability or because of their age, a step that happens to correspond to an explosion of tweets about the spreading coronavirus. The company told Reuters that the policy change was not a reaction to the outbreak of the virus, which causes the respiratory disease COVID-19, but was part of its continual effort to update its rules against hateful conduct. "We couldn't have predicted that this would happen in terms of the coronavirus," Jerrel Peterson, Twitter’s head of safety policy, said in a phone interview. Twitter has long been under pressure to clean up hateful content on its platform, and social media sites are under scrutiny over their attempts to handle misinformation and abuse related to the coronavirus outbreak. A Reuters search for derogatory terms linked to the virus on Twitter found posts that called Chinese people "subhum
