Soludo emerges victorious in Anambra Gubernatorial election.

Former governor of the Central Bank and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chukwuma Soludo, has been declared winner of the Anambra governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The Returning Officer of the Anambra governorship election, Prof Florence Obi, declared him the winner at the Anambra INEC office in Awka, the state capital this morning, November 10. According to Obi, Soludo polled a total of 112,229 votes to beat his closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 53,807 votes, and Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress who polled a total of 43,285 votes. Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party who polled 21,261 votes came fourth.

Peru socialist Castillo confirmed president after lengthy battle over results

Peru’s electoral authority on Monday named socialist Pedro Castillo as the country’s next president, having officially won the June 6 runoff against right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori, who accepted the result but said she had been cheated. The official result had been delayed by appeals from Fujimori aimed at annulling some ballots over fraud accusations. She said she was nonetheless bound by law to recognize the ruling of the National Jury of Elections. “I proclaim Pedro Castillo as president of the republic and Dina Boluarte as first vice president,” elections chief Jorge Salas said during a televised ceremony on Monday night. Security Operatives in Benin Republic have arrested Yoruba freedom fighter Sunday Adeyemo, popularly know as Sunday Igboho. According to Sahara Reporters, Igboho was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic after fleeing Nigeria to evade arrest by Nigeria's secret police. A source privy to his departure from Nigeria said he had perfected plans to secretly escape from Nigeria through Cotonou and was heading to Germany. He was, however, nabbed by security operatives in the neighboring country. Recall that the Department of State Services had declared Igboho wanted after its operatives carried out a bloody midnight raid on his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State. The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Godwin Obaseki, winner of the governorship election in Edo State. INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, announced the result of the election on Sunday. Obaseki of PDP polled 307,955 votes to defeat his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of the All Progressives Congress, who got 223,619 votes. Rim-Rukeh, while declaring Obaseki winner, said the incumbent governor was returned elected after satisfying all requirements in line with the law. Obaseki of PDP ran against APC standard-bearer Ize-Iyamu and 13 others. Obaseki was elected on APC’s platform in 2016 but defected to the PDP after being denied the ticket owing to intra-party squabbles. Following PDP's conquest in the just concluded Edo State Governorship election, aide of former president Goodluck Jonathan, has thrown shades at the former governor of Edo State Adams Oshiomhole, referring him as a "fairly used Chairman". Reno Omokri, social media to mock Oshiomhole, posting a caricature picture of the former APC Chairman with the caption "Fairly Used Chairman For Sale". Governor Godwin Obaseki was re-elected for second tenure by the people of Edo, according to results released by the electoral commission INEC. Obaseki, who won the seat under the APC, defected to the PDP, the main opposition party , after he was denied the party's flag bearer for the poll.

Thomas Thabane, prime minister of Lesotho Thomas Thabane, Prime Minister of Lesotho has said that he is stepping down, ending months of political uncertainty gripping the kingdom since he was accused of playing a part in the death of his ex-wife. Speaking to supporters on Monday, inhis Abia home constituency on the outskirts of the capital, Maseru, he said, "I decided to personally come and inform you that I am stepping down as Prime Minister of Lesotho." Thabane did not state when he will officially quit and clarified that he will remain leader of his governing All Basotho Convention (ABC) party for the time being. "It is rather difficult to part ways with something that you have been accustomed to and leave people behind, but we all have to leave at some point," he said.

The Supreme Court has dismissed the application filed before it by former Imo state governor, Emeka Ihedioha.  Ihedioha and his party, PDP, approached the apex court, seeking for a review of the January 14th judgement that sacked him from office and instated Hope Uzodinma as governor of Imo state.   In a ruling delivered this afternoon, a panel of judges led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad Tanko, dismissed the application on grounds that it lacked merit.   However, one of the judges out of the seven-man panel, Chima Chiweze, disagreed with the judgement

Pete Buttigieg is reportedly dropping his presidential bid after a disappointing showing in South Carolina, ending a meteoric rise that saw the once-obscure former mayor of South Bend, Ind., beat out several bigger-name rivals in the race for the Democratic nomination. The New York Times and other media outlets reported Buttigieg is planning to announce his decision to drop out shortly.

Musician John Legend will campaign for Sen. Elizabeth Warren in South Carolina next week, appearing in at least two events for the Massachusetts Democrat in Orangeburg and Charleston on Wednesday. He is also expected to perform, according to a Warren aide. Legend tweeted last month that he would be voting for Warren in the California Democratic primary. He also told "Vanity Fair" last fall that he and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, were supportive of Warren because "she's the best candidate running today and she comes at it with joy and with sincerity and with a wealth of knowledge and experience." It was unclear whether Teigen would also campaign alongside Legend next week.
