COVID-19: NCDC announces 166 additional infections, total now 211,496

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) has announced additional 166 COVID-19 new infections from 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the country.  The NCDC, via its verified website on Thursday, notes that the 166 fresh cases indicate an increase from the 159 cases posted on Tuesday. The Public Health Agency noted that till date, 211,496 cases have been confirmed, 202,930 cases discharged and 2,886 deaths recorded in 36 states and the FCT. It added that the 166 new cases were in Delta-36, the FCT-22, Rivers-21, Lagos-20, Anambra-18, Ondo-17, Oyo-8, Kebbi-6, Enugu-5, Plateau-5, Ebonyi-3, Kano-2, while, Bayelsa, Ekiti and Jigawa reported one case each. “Today’s report includes: 6 confirmed cases reported from Kebbi state for Oct. 26, 2021, and the five confirmed cases reported from Enugu state on Oct. 26, 2021. “Twenty discharged cases were reported from Enugu state on Oct. 26, and five discharged cases reported from Taraba state the same day are commu

1,387 more coronavirus cases reported in Tokyo on July 20

The Japanese capital has recorded more than 1,000 coronavirus infections for the sixth time in the past week, with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government reporting 1,387 new cases on July 20. The new cases came after Tokyo registered 727 infections on July 19. Tokyo remains under a fourth COVID-19 state of emergency as it prepares to launch the Olympic Games on July 23. The capital saw an average of 631.7 coronavirus cases per day in the first week of July. The daily average for the second week rose to 823.3. In June, Tokyo recorded a total of 12,979 new coronavirus cases, or a daily average of 432.6, down from the daily average of 705.8 in May. By July 19, a total of 2,270 people had died of COVID-19 in Tokyo since the pandemic began in the spring of 2020. Tokyo has recorded 191,230 infections to date, the most of any of Japan's 47 prefectures. As of July 19, there were 2,346 COVID-19 patients in hospital, 60 with severe symptoms. (Mainichi)

Indonesia reports 4,634 new cases of coronavirus.

Indonesia reported 4,634 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday September 24, according to the health ministry. Indonesia has now recorded a total of 262,022 cases of coronavirus, 191,853 recoveries and 10,105 deaths.

UK reports 6,178 new cases of coronavirus. Highest figure since May 1.

Britain reported 6,178 new daily cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the highest number of infections since May 1, government data showed. Officials also said there had been 37 deaths of people within 28 days of a positive COVID-19 test, the same number as on Tuesday which itself was the most recorded since July 14. The number of coronavirus cases has been soaring in Britain, prompting the government on Tuesday to announce a series of new restrictions in a bid to curb a second wave of the outbreak. David Moyes, two players tests positive for Coronavirus.

West Ham manager David Moyes and Hammers players Issa Diop and Josh Cullen have tested positive for the coronavirus, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday. West Ham’s medical team were informed of the test results while Moyes and his squad were at the London Stadium preparing for Tuesday’s League Cup third round tie against Hull. “The manager and both players immediately left the stadium and returned home,” a West Ham statement said. “All three, who are asymptomatic, will now follow Public Health England and Premier League guidelines and protocols.” Tuesday’s match went ahead as planned, with West Ham assistant manager Alan Irvine taking charge of the team. 30 million cases of coronavirus confirmed Worldwide.

Confirmed cases of the coronavirus have topped 30 million worldwide, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University. More than half of the total Covid-19 infections have been recorded in just three countries – the US, India and Brazil – according to the US university’s tally. The number increased by 10 million in just over a month; global cases passed 20 million on August 12. The United States leads the country count with at least 6,675,560 reported cases, followed by India with at least 5,214,677 and Brazil at 4,455,386, the numbers showed.

Coronavirus hits Brazil as first case is confirmed.

A 61-year-old Brazilian man has tested positive to the novel coronavirus Brazil health minister confirmed. The Man who arrived Sao Paulo from italy tested positive to the dreaded virus today. The Man who arrived Brazil clean on Saturday spent the weekend with his family before coming down with the symptoms and visiting a health clinic on Monday Minister Luiz Henrinque Mendetta said. The Man who was in Italy from Feb 9 to Friday was hospitalized and preliminary test Showed positive and he was isolated. A second test further confirmed that he has the virus. Authorities are currently mapping out who the man came in contact with on his arrival.

32 Million Naira to fight Lassa Fever

The European Commission said on Thursday it had allocated €80,000 (about N32m) to assist Nigeria to fight Lassa fever and cater to the families affected by the outbreak. The EU said the funds would go towards “supporting the Nigerian Red Cross in promoting hygiene practices and disease transmission control” as well as helping to identify suspected cases. A statement on Thursday by the union quoted the EU as saying, “The funding forms part of the EU’s overall contribution to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. In the two most affected states, Ondo and Edo, the main actions will focus on health education on signs and symptoms, prevention measure and behavioural change in food storage and handling; and pest control activities.
