Rafael Nadal receives the Grand Cross of the Order of the Dos de Mayo.


Tennis Star Rafael Nadal has received the decoration of the Grand Cross of the Order of Dos de Mayo, the highest honour the Madrid region can grant.

The honour was given to him in recognition of his outstanding sporting career in which he became one of the best players in the history of tennis and the best athlete of all the history of spain thanks to his achievements.

The award came weeks after Nadal was crowned champion of Roland Garros for the thirteenth time.

"I would like to send a message of encouragement to families who have lost a loved one. Also to all health personnel and, together with them, to the State security forces," Nadal said as he dedicated the award to all the victims of the pandemic and their families, as well as to health workers and state security forces.


The award was presented to Nadal by Isabel Dias Ayuso, the president of the Community of Madrid, at the Royal Post Office.
