COVID-19: Morocco announces three-week curfew

The Moroccan government announced a nationwide curfew and other restrictive measures Monday, as it seeks to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The curfew will be in place between the hours of 9:00 pm (2000 GMT) and 6:00 am and the new measures — also including a ban on parties and public gatherings — will all kick in for a three-week period from Wednesday, the government said in a statement reported by the official MAP news agency.  

Morocco has lately been detecting more than 2,000 coronavirus cases per day, while local media have reported a drop off in testing by the kingdom.  

The country has registered more than 418,000 coronavirus infections, including 7,000 deaths, according to the last official count. 

Authorities hope to begin a vaccination programme at the end of this year, with the aim of immunising around 20 million people in three months, although they have yet to confirm a start date.

She was held at about 8pm yesterday in the Costa del Sol resort of Torremolinos after annoying neighbours who had applauded emergency services for their work in the fight against coronavirus. She was filmed resisting arrest with her clothes on at first, but stripped off as she got to court. After being hit with a truncheon and pinned to the ground, she was taken to a waiting ambulance. She has been described as a 41-year-old Spanish national. A Catholic priest, identified as Father  Abel Mwelwa , has been suspended in Lusaka, Zambia, after his married lover allegedly died during a marathon sex in his house. The deceased, who was a member of the Catholic Women’s League from St Maurice Catholic Church, had lied to her husband that she was going to a funeral but ended up with the priest. The United States Government has today Tuesday June 16, filed indictments against six high profile Nigerians for conducting an elaborate scheme to steal over six million dollars from victims across the United States.
