"Akon City", Star secures $6bn construction contract.
Akon has secured a $6 billion contract with U.S.-based engineering and consulting firm KE International to build "Akon City" in Senegal, which will be run exclusively on Akon's cryptocurrency, AKOIN. Macky Sall, the President of Senegal, also plans for the city to act as a special tax zone.
The city will be located on 2000 acres on the ocean and will be less than an hour's drive south of the new International airport in Dakar.
Kenyan entrepreneur and Investor Julius Mwale has also partnered with Akon on the deal. Mwale recently worked with KE International on his $2 billion USD Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC) project, which will serve over 35,000 community members with its supermarket, hospital, mall, golf course, and is 100% powered by renewable energy.
The first phase of Akon City is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, and will include a Hamptons Hospital campus, Hamptons Mall, residences, hotels, police, schools, waste facilities, and a solar power plant.
The second phase is expected to be completed in 2029 and will include phasing in businesses that will support AKOIN. Akon City aims to run on 100 percent renewable energy.
