Former Mayor of Detroit to be released from prison after serving only seven years of a 28-year sentence.

Kwame kilpatrick, Former Mayor of Detroit, who was sentenced to 28 years in prison for committing 24 felonies, is set for an early release due to coronavirus pandemic.


Kilpatrick has just served only seven years of a 28-year sentence.


The purported release comes after five inmates died as a result of coronavirus in the prison where the Former Mayor was held.


Kilpatrick is expected to go through a quarantine period before entering home confinement in June.


In 2013, Kilpatrick was indicted on 24 felony counts, including racketeering, mail fraud and wire fraud, following investigations by federal authorities.
