Golf: Masters Tournament postponed until November.
The Masters golf tournament will take place in November, the latest sporting event rescheduled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The tournament, set for the week of April 5, will instead be played Nov. 9-15, according to NBC Sports, putting it partially on the same weekend as NFL and college football games and possibly the MLB playoffs, depending on how the season is rescheduled.
“In collaboration with the leading organizations in golf, Augusta National Golf Club has identified November 9-15 as the intended dates to host the 2020 Masters,” Fred Ridley, chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club, said in a statement.
“While more details will be shared in the weeks and months to come, we, like all of you, will continue to focus on all mandated precautions and guidelines to fight against the coronavirus,” Ridley added. “Along the way, we hope the anticipation of staging the Masters Tournament in the fall brings a moment of joy to the Augusta community and all those who love the sport.”
The pandemic has affected the other three major golf tournaments as well, with the British Open, scheduled for July 13-19, canceled, the U.S. Open moved from June 15-21 to Sept. 14-20 and the PGA Championship postponed from May 11-17 to Aug. 3-9.
