Tougher and stricter rules to be enforced to limit movement - Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo

Image
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has called for stricter rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as the government mulls over a local quarantine policy that would allow local administrations to ban people from traveling to and from their respective areas. “I see that governors have appealed to migrants in Greater Jakarta not to travel home. I ask for this to be intensified again. Such an appeal is not enough. More stringent steps are needed to close the COVID-19 transmission chain,” the President said in the introductory statement of a limited meeting on Monday. Jokowi said he had received a number of reports, including those from the governors of Central Java and Yogyakarta, that the Idul Fitri  mudik  (exodus) had begun early.  “Many people traveling is very risky for the spread of COVID-19,” he said. He said many informal workers in Greater Jakarta had traveled to the provinces of West Java, Central Java, East Java and Yogyakarta since Jakarta announced its emergency statu

Negotiations to prevent more hospitals from shutting down in Australia continues.

Image
Frantic negotiations are underway to save more hospitals from closing and ensure tens of thousands of beds could be used to treat  coronavirus  patients. Private hospital company Healthe Care has already stood down 800 staff and is putting in doubt 8000 beds at 34 private hospitals across Australia after the federal government cancelled elective surgeries in response to the COVID-19 spread. In a letter to staff, a copy seen by 9News, Healthe Care stated that the availability of private hospitals is at risk. It is now putting the pressure on state and federal governments for financial help. Chinese billionaire Liu Dian Bo bought Healthe Care for $900 million in 2015. "We have received no firm proposals," the company's letter to staff said. "Regrettably, this has driven us to these immediate actions." Other priv

An E.R. doctor who dared to sound the alarm his hospital did not have enough PPE's to protect hospital staff has been fired ... according to the doc himself. Dr. Ming Lin  says he was given his walking papers from PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, Washington, after he pled with folks on social media and other outlets for the hospital to get more gloves, masks and other items that protect doctors and nurses from contracting the coronavirus. As you know, the disease has hit Washington state with a vengeance. Dr. Lin, who worked at the hospital for 17 years, says he was unceremoniously fired by a supervisor who told him, "You've been terminated." Dr. Lin reportedly took it in stride, telling the Seattle Times, "It's a blow to my ego more than anything." Lin had been very critical of the hospital, saying it wasn't protecting the staff. He claimed on social media the hospital would not screen patients outside the facility fo

"We are in shock, we are in disbelief and above all we are immensely sad," Bouffier said in a recorded statement. Hesse is home to Germany's financial capital Frankfurt, where major lenders like Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank have their headquarters. The European Central Bank is also located in Frankfurt. Tornado hits Arkansas.

Image
As the U.S. grapples with the coronavirus outbreak, Arkansas had another natural disaster thrown onto its plate this weekend ... a massive tornado ripping through one of its towns. A tornado warning was issued Saturday near Jonesboro, AK -- about 2 hours outside of Little Rock -- and not too long after that ... a giant twister touched down on the city and tore through a section of it -- which was caught on video as drivers casually cruised by. Different angles of the shots that are online right now show just how damn big this thing got -- it looks like it's straight out of the 'Wizard of Oz' or something ... that's how big it appears from afar. You can even see several different items swirling in the air, almost in slow motion. It's just like the movies -- only it's real. Yeah, Dorothy wouldn't have fared well here. In all seriousness though, it's a scary sight -- especially seeing how low to the ground (all the way, j

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we've all been much more conscious about keeping things clean - whether that's our hands or our surfaces. Initial reports found that  coronavirus  lives on copper for four hours, cardboard for 24 hours, and up to three days on plastic and stainless steel. But, what we want to know is how this impacts other items such as our fruit and vegetables. In the supermarkets a lot of the fruit and veg we buy is sold loose, this means that people are able to pick and choose which piece looks the best. However, this also means that the chances of picking up a piece of fruit that someone has already picked up once, before deciding they didn't want, is extremely high. Timothy Newsome, a Virologist at the University of Sydney, said that "every surface has a hazard” - including your food. However he adds that “you cannot get risk down to zero". Speaking to  news.com.au  he explained: "It should be recognised the virus can survive o
